Thirsk Market Place Works

Summary of Traffic Management and Intended Works Programme and Procedures

Millgate Phase 1 - Drawing No.1

Proposed 4 day closure on Millgate. Week commencing 12th September 2005.

The contractor intends to have 3 gangs working in the area. It is intended to concentrate on kerbing work and reinstatements in the carriage way, then concentrate on paving/cobbling, generally working southwards. Houseman & Falshaw do not anticipate completing all the paving/cobbling in this area. Deliverers into shops in area are to be escorted in to Millgate from the Market Place, allowed to unload whilst parked on cobbles or existing carriageway and then escorted out of the site in a northbound direction.

Millgate Phase 2 - Drawing No.2

Proposed duration 19 days, with all roads open to traffic. Commencing 16th September 2005 until 12th October 2005.

It is intended to work on paving build-outs near Black Bull Public House and continue cobbling works again in a southerly direction.

Removing the front row of parking on the west side of Millgate is to allow shop delivery vehicles a place to unload or traffic to divert around whilst plant and construction deliveries are parked on the existing carriageway.

Kirkgate, sign and ducting works elsewhere in Thirsk

Proposed duration 21 days, with localised Traffic Management, but generally roads will remain open to traffic. Commencing 16th September 2005 until 14th October 2005.

Finkle Street Phase 1 - Drawing No.3

Proposed 10 day closure on Finkle Street. Weeks commencing 26th September 2005 and 3rd October 2005.

During early part of road closure the contractor has allowed for finish of paving at the build-outs at Black Bull, however realistically it is understood he believes this work is likely to have been completed.

Similarly the area of cobbling and parking is anticipated to be much less than shown but at this stage feels unable to confirm a smaller area. However it is his intention that he introduce the traffic management on Millgate as shown on Drawing No.4 as soon as practical.

It is understood the contractors’ intention is to concentrate on the kerbing and works to the narrow footways in this period.

Finkle Street Phase 2 - Drawing No.4

Duration 11 days with all roads open to traffic. Commencing 10th October 2005 until 24th October 2005.

It is understood that the contractor intends to concentrate on build-outs, cobbles, paving and block paving in the car park area and that the contractor would reduce the size of the compound as he could.

Millgate/Finkle Street – Full Road Closure - Drawing No.5

Full Closure for 4 days. Commencing 24th October 2005 until 27th October 2005.

This was originally intended for all surfacing work in the area however Thirsk Division have asked to have this period extended to include the resurfacing of the whole area. Some of this area was intended to be carried out in the previous Thirsk Market Place resurfacing scheme but was left out due to our impending scheme. At this stage I am unsure of the exact limits but assume it is the whole area covered by our works.

Also in this period is included the imprint surfacing, anti-skid surfacing and white lining. It is intended this will be carried out closing each road individually and re opening it prior to the work on the next one being undertaken.

It is intended to implement these closures in the following order:

a) Millgate/Traffic island as per Traffic Management Drawing No.1
b) Kirkgate
c) Finkle Street as per Traffic Management Drawing No.3
d) A61 Market Place

Once all the above works are completed, the other lining works ie. Car park, disabled bays etc. will be carried out with no interference to the main traffic routes.

Works completed 27th October 2005, with clean up/handover on the 29th October 2005.
