Road works in Finkle Street, Market Place, Millgate and Kirkgate

As we have mentioned previously, the County Council is going ahead with the alterations to the above.
This work will now commence in September 05 and will cause major disruptions to the Town. The attached schedule gives details of the extent of the works although some dates may change slightly due to other restraints.
It is important that you keep accurate records of sales etc for a comparison with the previous year.
We will hold a meeting in October this year to assess the situation and listen to your views.

Remember to check your rating assessment and use the guide which was provided in the May issue.

Our aims and Objectives for the future
  • Drive the economy of Thirsk and its surrounding Districts
  • Lobby on behalf of the Business Community
  • Keep members informed of significant local issues
  • Informing members of local business initiatives and grants
  • Provide a forum to develop local business policies
  • Hold regular events with keynote speakers
  • Liaise with Police and other service providers to inform them of business needs
  • Support local events

Business Directory for the District

The final drafts have now been reviewed and amendments made where necessary.
The data will now be with the printers for collation and then sent to Royal Mail for distribution.
Every address in the YO7 & YO61 postal districts should receive a copy by the end of August.
You will appreciate the magnitude of this venture but now we are nearly there!!
A lot of hard work has gone into this so far so we hope that is a success.
We are grateful for the assistance provided by Kathryn Chapman of Rural Networking and Jo Wood of Community Publications who have given lots of support and advice.
We hope that the Directory gives the kind of support to all businesses they deserve from the local population.
Next year we hope to increase the scope of the Directory and we will be contacting you later in the year.
If you have any queries etc E-mail: thirsk.bus@ntlworld.com

Local flooding in the District

Once again the forces of nature have caused chaos.
The recent flooding in North Yorkshire has taken its toll on homes and businesses alike. Whilst we cannot control Mother nature, we can provide some assistance to businesses who have suffered as a result of this freak of nature.
Steve Hubbard has contacted the affected businesses in the Town but this information is intended for any business in the District.
If you have had a loss of trade and damage to your business then you should contact Hambleton District Council’s Rating Office (01609-779977) and advise them of your situation, as we intend to make a case for a Business Rate refund or a “holiday” concession. Take this action now as you will probably need documentary proof of your claim.

Future meetings

It would appear that most members seem satisfied with receiving information either by E-mail or by post.
The latter is out of our hands as it seems that not all posted information reaches the destination intended!!
The committee have therefore decided that until further notice, we will hold Bi-monthly meetings, the next meeting being on September 6th 2005 at 7.30pm
at The Three Tuns Hotel, Thirsk Market Place.

The committee will continue to meet on a monthly basis to keep up to date with developments and to discuss any issues which may be relevant.
Any member is welcome to the committee meetings, so if you have any issues, please come along.
The committee will meet on the 1st Tuesday of every other month, commencing October 4th 2005.
We will still publish newsletters as previously and will keep you up to date with any contentious points.

Value for Money

Please remember that the fees are currently £40 per year, payable by either a “one-off”sum or by quarterly Standing Order.

The next Standing Order forms wil be sent out in April 2006, and payments will be due in June 2006

Earlier than this, we will be sending out forms for the 2006 directory so that any update of information can be made,
